NAPD Trained Divers Recover Fisherman’s Body in Lake Fork, TX

LakeForkBRLakeForkBR The ALERT Aquatic Unit was returning from assisting flood victims in Wood County near Perryville Saturday September 19, 2009 when Captain Joel Talley received a phone call from Wood County Game Warden Kurt Kelly. He stated that there was a drowned victim in Lake Fork and divers were needed immediately.

After arriving on scene at 3:40 pm, signing in, and gearing up, the ALERT divers were transported across Lake Fork to the Last Seen Point (LSP). Joel was informed that the search for the missing fisherman had begun early Friday morning with sonar equipped boats and divers from various departments. The original search team had narrowed down the search area to a little more than 50 by 50 yards. They also had several locations marked with buoys because of possible targets found by sonar.
Captain Talley sent divers down on three of the buoys to verify reports whether the victim was or wasn’t there. The third team in the water went down to search the highest probable area and found the victim right where he had been seen on sonar. The first ALERT divers started diving at 4:19 pm and the victim was located at 4:49 pm. His body was recovered at 5:00 pm and after the debriefing ALERT cleared the scene at 6:30 pm.
